Simply Christian

The Bible, God’s inspired word to man, describes the group of people who follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior as “Christians” (Acts 11:26). They were a part of the church that Jesus built (Matthew 16:18). Note they were not added to one of the many denominations that exists today. Rather they were added to the church and were simply Christians. We believe that if we follow the pattern for the church that we find in the Bible, we too can simply be Christians. We spend time in the study of the Bible and work to follow the pattern we find there of how to become Christians, how to worship our Lord as Christians, live our lives, and raise our families as Christians. Our plea is to call back to the Bible. We want to speak where the Bible speaks, but also remain silent where the Bible is silent. Our plea is for you to join us in our study of Scripture in doing those things that New Testament Christians did in service to their Lord.

What about my Eternal Soul?

In Matthew 7:13-14 Jesus tells us that there are two paths of life that we can choose. One route that is commonly taken is “easy,” meaning those who travel on such a route neither care nor follow rules laid down by the Lord. While the second route that is less traveled on is “hard,” or you will have to obey Jesus and stay away from the temptations of the world. According to God (The Author of our physical and eternal state), sin brings about death. Romans 6:23a “For the wages of sin is death.” Earlier on in the book of Romans, we read that “all have sinned” (3:23). If all individuals have sinned, and if sin leads to death (eternal death), does it not stand to reason that we need salvation? We need to leave the “easy” road and merge onto the “hard” road…but how? The New Testament is very specific about how one can leave their life of sin and become simply a Christian, having their sins washed away by the blood of Christ.

You must HEAR – No one can know what they must do to be saved unless they have heard the words of salvation. The faith that we need can only come through the hearing of the words of Christ (Romans 10:17).

You must BELIEVE – Jesus said in John 8:24, “You will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” We must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that He died for us and raised again for our benefit (Romans 4:25).

You must REPENT – Repentance means to turn away from sin. No longer will you walk on the “easy” route, now you will take the “hard” route and strive to sin no more. Luke 13:3 says, “I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

You must CONFESS – You must confess that you believe that Jesus is your Savior, that He is God. Jesus said in Matthew 10:32, “Everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.” This confession comes at the time of our obedience to Jesus and is a life long confession that we continue to proclaim to the world around us.

You must be BAPTIZED – Peter answered the people at the day of Pentecost who were wondering what they must do to be saved by stating, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.” Baptism in the original greek language meant to “overwhelm.” Baptism is not a sprinkling or pouring of water over the head, rather it is a full immersion. Romans 6:4 shows us the importance of such an immersion, “Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.” When we are baptized, we are going through our own death, burial and resurrection.

All of us struggle to trust God

Prayers – God has given His children an avenue in which we might communicate with Him. Through prayers, we may thank the Lord for all of His blessings, praise Him for who He is, and petition Him for the desires of our heart.
